Leipzig's training figures: High demand, but women are on the rise!
The number of training contracts in Leipzig remains stable, as the Leipzig Chamber of Crafts reports. In the current training year 2025/2026, a total of 967 contracts were registered, which corresponds to the previous year. This marks an interesting development in relation to regional apprenticeships. While the Leipzig city area recorded an increase of almost 8% with 495 apprenticeship contracts, the Leipzig and Northern Saxony districts are struggling with a decline of around 15% compared to July 2024.
In total, apprenticeship contracts were concluded in 67 different professions, which underlines the diversity of training offers in the region. The professions of automotive mechatronics engineer, electronics engineer and system mechanic for plumbing, heating and air conditioning technology are particularly popular, with a total of over 380 training contracts having been concluded.

- Elektroniker: 95 Lehrverhältnisse
- Anlagenmechaniker für Sanitär-, Heizungs- und Klimatechnik: 74 Lehrverhältnisse

A notable aspect of this year's training statistics is the increase in young women in male-dominated professions. A total of 217 women are undergoing training in regional crafts, with a high proportion in health and food professions such as specialist food salespeople and hairdressers. Women are also increasingly present in skilled trades such as carpentry or painting and varnishing. 50% of the fitment workers are already female.
