Wolves conquer Saxony: two new couples at Leipzig discovered!
The wolves continue to spread in Saxony. The latest monitoring results show the confirmation of two new wolf territories in the Leipzig district. These are in the tres forest and in the Lossatal. This increases the number of wolf pairs in Saxony to a total of six. In addition, another wolf territory in the Muldenhammer region in the Vogtlandkreis could be confirmed. Radio Leipzig reports that, despite this increase in the main area for wolves in Saxony, 28 confirmed territories and 27 Brigs.
In total, 35 wolf packs are currently living in Saxony. It is particularly interesting that in the areas of Moritzburg, Gohrischheide and in the western part of Saxon Switzerland, which are located between Hohnstein and Schmilka, the status is still unclear. While the data evaluation in seven other areas, including Cunewalde, Graereihersee, Elstra and Haselbachtal near Kamenz, still has to be completed, the Wolfsterritritrita Forst has now disappeared in the southeast of Leipzig.
monitoring and developments
The monitoring of wolf territories in Germany takes place annually by the federal states. Each federal state carries out independent surveys of wolf deposits, the results of which are then presented once a year in September. This year, the monitoring period from May 1st of last year to April 30 of the current year. In addition to monitoring in Saxony, 85 wolf territories are currently known throughout Germany, which includes 66 packs, 13 pairs and 6 territorial individual animals. The DBB-Wolf reports that could be proven in a total of 60 packs and a total of 169 puppies were confirmed.
These figures show that wolf population in Germany is still stable and is represented in many federal states, including Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The status and the changes in wolf populations are of great interest to conservationists, especially in view of the growing debates about dealing with wolves in agricultural areas.
