CityTunnel Leipzig closed: How to get to the Robbie Williams concert!
Today, July 9, 2025, the CityTunnel in Leipzig remains closed to S-Bahn connections. This step is part of construction work that will begin on the same day and is expected to last until July 10, 2025, 2:00 a.m. The closure affects numerous S-Bahn lines that lead to and from the city. In particular, connectivity to the Robbie Williams concert in the city will be affected, forcing many travelers to take other routes.
The affected lines include:
- S1: Leipzig-Stötteritz – Leipzig Hbf (tief) – Leipzig Miltitzer Allee
- S2: Leipzig-Stötteritz – Leipzig Hbf (tief) – Bitterfeld – Dessau Hbf/Lutherstadt Wittenberg – Zahna/Jüterbog
- S3: Halle-Nietleben – Halle(Saale) Hbf – Schkeuditz – Leipzig Hbf (tief) – Leipzig-Stötteritz – Wurzen
- S4: Markkleeberg-Gaschwitz – Leipzig-Connewitz – Leipzig Hbf (tief) – Torgau – Falkenberg
- S5/S5X: Halle(Saale) Hbf – Leipzig/Halle Flughafen – Leipzig Hbf (tief) – Altenburg – Zwickau(Sachs) Hbf
- S6: Leipzig Messe – Leipzig Hbf (tief) – Böhlen (Leipzig) – Borna – Geithain
Lockdown details and restrictions
The restrictions are significant. The S1 and S2 journeys begin and end in the upper track area of the main station. In addition, the S3 connections run from Leipzig-Connewitz, with no stop in Engelsdorf. For the S4 there is a connection between Leipzig Hbf and Markkleeberg-Gaschwitz via the S5 and S6. The failure of the connections between Leipzig-Messe and Connewitz is particularly problematic for the S6.
In order to still provide travelers with a connection, an additional bus will be set up at 11 p.m. from the east side of Leipzig Hbf to Borsdorf. This measure is intended to help ensure the connection to Oschatz. Travelers are strongly recommended to find out about the current connections on the official railway websites, such as MDV or via the DB Navigator app, before departure.
Recommendations and delay regulations
For everyone affected by the closures, the rule applies that if there are delays of at least 20 minutes, the use of another route, including long-distance transport, is permitted without a reservation fee. This flexible handling is intended to help minimize inconvenience for travelers and avoid unnecessary waiting times.
