Bretsch fire department shines with new equipment thanks to wind power money!

The Bretsch volunteer fire department recently received new fire protection equipment, which was financed by a donation of 3,500 euros from Bürgerenergie Windpark Gagel GmbH & Co. KG. This support is part of a larger commitment by the Gagel wind farm, which is located in Altmärkische Höhe and cooperates with the community to promote local projects. As az-online.de reports, the fire department's support association celebrated the handover of the new equipment with a summer barbecue.

The Gagel wind farm, in operation since 2017, is the largest wind farm owned by Prokon Regenerative Energies eG and includes 16 modern wind turbines. These systems have a total output of 48 MW and supply an average of around 40,000 households with green electricity. A total of 18 million euros were invested in the wind farm, with citizens and members of the GLS Bank already heavily involved in the project with interest-bearing bearer bonds.

New equipment for the fire department

The Bretsch fire brigade's newly purchased equipment includes various suction and pressure hoses, a suction basket, two jet pipes and a distributor. Armin Vinzelberg, deputy district fire chief, was very positive about the importance of this equipment for fire protection in the community. Mayor Bernd Prange (CDU) also emphasized the importance of such donations for the implementation of various projects within the municipality.

The Gagel wind farm is not only a technical highlight, but also has significant ecological advantages. By the end of 2022, the park was able to generate a total of 637 million kWh of electricity, which corresponds to CO2 savings of around 380,000 tons. This corresponds to the annual CO2 emissions of around 196,000 cars, each of which travels 10,000 kilometers per year.

A contribution to the energy transition

The Gagel wind farm has established itself as a pioneer in the energy transition thanks to its citizen-oriented orientation and close cooperation with the GLS Bank. The environmentally friendly technologies, including the gearless Enercon E-115 turbines with a hub height of 149 meters, not only contribute to the power supply of around 190,000 households, but also serve as an example for sustainable projects in the region. The electricity is remunerated according to EEG 2017 with a remuneration of 8.38 ct/kWh, which further supports the economic viability of the project.

Overall, the developments surrounding the Bretsch volunteer fire department and the Gagel wind farm show how local initiatives and civic engagement can contribute to strengthening the community while at the same time actively addressing the challenges of the energy transition.
