First edition of Tafelgarten: Fresh vegetables for Seehausen!
The first distribution point for the table gardens will start in the Hanseatic city of Seehausen on Thursday, June 19, 2025. The first vegetable products are already ripe and will benefit people in need. Ehrenamtliche Helfer, darunter Barbara Zenkert, Monika Preuß und Karin Emme, haben in einer Garage am Fuß der St.-Petri-Kirche viel Arbeit in die Vorbereitung der Ausgabestelle gesteckt.
The team cleaned the premises, dusted shelves and boxes and cleaned the floor. In addition, water was stored in 20 liter canisters and the outside area was cleaned by Seehausen city workers. Project managers Hans-Joachim Hildebrandt and Lothar Ernst would like to thank all helpers for their commitment and active support.
First food distribution
On the first day of distribution, various vegetables such as lettuce, spring onions, rhubarb, soup herbs, radishes, kohlrabi and potatoes will be available. The organizers ask for your understanding that the amount per person is limited in order to help as many people as possible. In addition, all citizens are invited to donate excess fruit and vegetables to the table gardens. Hobby gardeners can also contact the distribution point on Thursday mornings to share their harvest.
The Tafel in Seehausen is an important project to support people in need and follows the principles of the Tafel in Germany. These vary in size and spending frequency and operate independently, setting their own rules for new customer verification and spending. Large food banks often have several distribution points and set rare opening times, while smaller food banks like in Seehausen usually provide food once a week.
Commitment and support
Food banks finance their important work through donations from private individuals and companies. The involvement is diverse: Volunteers can help with food distribution or fundraising activities. Anyone who needs support or wants to get involved is cordially invited to contact the local food bank directly. Further information about Tafel locations can be found using the Tafel search, which works by zip code or place of residence. The commitment of the volunteers in Seehausen is an outstanding example of community solidarity and the will to offer people in need a perspective. The opening of the distribution point on June 19th marks an important step in supporting those in need in the region. We look forward to a successful collaboration and would like to thank all supporters and helpers for their willingness to make a difference.
