There were several tragic swimming accidents in Bavaria over the weekend, which attracted the attention of the emergency services and the public. Two serious incidents occurred in the districts of Weilheim-Schongau and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The 88-year-old man was discovered lifeless in the water after being pulled to shore by a 60-year-old rescuer. Helpers carried out resuscitation measures, which lasted until the emergency doctor arrived. He was then flown to a clinic by rescue helicopter. Shockingly, however, there is no evidence of foul play in this case.
Missing swimmers and tragic incidents
The incident at Staffelsee, where a 79-year-old man is missing, ended less happily. He was traveling on a pedal boat with a companion and went into the water, but didn't come back. Despite intensive searches with helicopters, drones and divers, he remained missing. This search is part of a larger problem that is currently affecting Bavaria, as well Augsburger Allgemeine reported.
Additionally, there was another tragic event at Lake Starnberg, where a 23-year-old student went missing after jumping from a motorboat and sinking. Extensive searches are also underway here. According to reports, helpers from the district water rescue service had just returned from another mission when they heard cries for help. In this other case, a man with his family in an electric boat encountered difficulties after he jumped into the water and had to be brought to shore unconscious. Unfortunately, attempts at resuscitation were unsuccessful.
More swimming accidents in Bavaria
The list of incidents continues with tragic events: A 30-year-old man drowned in the Lech near Kissing and died in hospital. There was also a sensational incident at Lake Karlsfelder when a missing swimmer was rescued from a depth of five meters - here too, resuscitation measures were unsuccessful. Such accidents warn urgently about the dangers of swimming in natural waters, as the state chairman of the water rescue service in Bavaria, Thomas Huber, has already emphasized.
There were also reports of rescued dogs. The Töging am Inn water rescue service rescued a dog named Mia, who drifted 20 kilometers in the Inn Canal and escaped into shallow water shortly before the rescuers arrived. The dog was found suffering from hypothermia and injuries to her paws, but was otherwise fine.
The increase in such incidents makes the need for safety measures and increased vigilance among bathers and rescue workers particularly clear. The tragic incidents highlight how important it is to be careful when swimming in natural waters.
