Burglar strikes: jewelry robbery in Schenefeld shakes the district!

On Thursday afternoon, November 7th, 2025, a break-in occurred in a single-family home in Schenefeld in the Steinburg district. Unknown perpetrators broke into the house between 2:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. by forcefully opening a patio door on the left side. During the incident, jewelry was stolen from several closets before the perpetrators fled the scene undetected. The police in Itzehoe have taken over the investigation.

The investigators are now looking for witnesses who can provide information about suspicious people or vehicles in the Ringstrasse area. Information can be given to the Itzehoe District Criminal Investigation Department on 04821 6020. This incident comes at a time when the number of burglaries in Schleswig-Holstein has increased in recent years.

Increasing number of burglaries in Schleswig-Holstein

According to current statistics, there were 2,675 recorded burglaries in Schleswig-Holstein in 2022, while 3,271 burglaries were already registered in 2023. While the number of cases that could be solved rose from 400 in 2022 to 520 in 2023, there was also an increase in the number of suspects: in 2022 there were 380, in 2023 it was already 427. What is particularly noteworthy is that the majority of the suspects are male: 382 in 2023 compared to 335 in 2022. Also the number of non-Germans Suspects increased, from 158 in 2022 to 191 in 2023.

For Germany as a whole, North Rhine-Westphalia reported the highest number of burglaries for 2023: 27,061 cases were registered. These figures highlight the ongoing trend in burglary crimes and underline the need for more intensive policing and prevention measures.
