Fire and theft shake Leipzig: investigations are underway!

On November 10, 2025, there were several incidents in Leipzig that attracted the attention of the police. These include a break-in, property damage and a fire in Lene-Voigt-Park, all of which were discovered shortly after midnight or in the early hours of the morning.

On the night of November 9th, unknown perpetrators broke into a shop in Leipzig (Schönefeld-Abtnaundorf). They got inside through the broken entrance door and stole high-quality tools worth several thousand euros. The property damage caused by the break-in amounts to around 2,000 euros. The criminal police have already started investigations into particularly serious theft in order to catch the perpetrators and solve the crime. This was also done by L-IZ and Media service Saxony reported.

Shame on stumbling blocks

Another incident occurred between September 3rd and November 9th in Leipzig (Wahren), where two stumbling blocks were massively damaged. The stone slabs that serve to commemorate the victims of National Socialism were deformed beyond recognition. The damage was discovered by a jogger who immediately informed the police. Here too, the police have started investigations into property damage that is harmful to the community, but the amount of property damage cannot yet be quantified.

On the same night on November 10th there was also a fire in the Lene-Voigt-Park in Leipzig-Reudnitz, which was noticed around 2:20 a.m. Unknown persons had started a fire that damaged the green area as well as a tree and several objects. Fortunately, there were no injuries and the nearby homeless camp was not affected. The East Volunteer Fire Department and the South Professional Fire Department were quickly on site and were able to completely extinguish the fire. The police have also started investigations into property damage here, as in the reports L-IZ and Media service Saxony described in more detail.

Discrepancy between perception and reality

These incidents occur in a context in which a representative survey of 6,000 Leipzig residents shows that there is a large discrepancy between the fear of crime and the actual crimes. While many crimes are recorded in the districts close to the center, many people feel safe there. Such security surveys are crucial to formulate future measures to improve security, such as Leipzig.de reported.

The 2023 Security Survey results report, conducted between April and June, covers various security-related topics and serves as a basis for preventive measures. The Leipzig city council has already announced that it will support specific projects in the city to strengthen cleanliness and social cohesion.
