Mannheim invests 11.8 million euros in sustainable urban development!
Mannheim, Deutschland - The city of Mannheim has big plans for the future urban development and receives urban development funds from the state government of EUR 11.8 million. These funding should flow into several districts in order to ensure a sustainable improvement in the quality of life in the city. Mayor Ralf Eisenhauer emphasizes that the funds are primarily used for modernization and renovation measures that should upgrade the living situation as a whole. Particular attention is paid to the Vogelstang district, which is headed for a formal renovation process.
For the new measure in Vogelstang, 1.7 million euros are available. This large housing estate from the 1960s urgently needs a renovation, since public spaces and facilities no longer meet today's requirements. The city of Mannheim is currently carrying out an urban planning preliminary examination in this area in order to record the renovation potential. Various aspects such as living comfort, infrastructure and the traffic and supply situation are taken into account. Citizens are invited to participate in the process through an online participation in order to contribute their opinions and needs. Further information is available on the website www.mannheim-gemeinsam-gestalten.de.
improvement of the infrastructure
In addition to Vogelstang, the Franklin district also receives financial support. Here, 3.5 million euros flow into the conclusion of public development measures, in particular into the conversion of the Wasserwerkstrasse and the expansion of the tricky knot forest Waldstraße/Wasserwerkstraße. Furthermore, 2.8 million euros are planned for urban development on Spinelli, where leisure facilities, a partial termination of the U-Hall and new cycle paths are to be created. The measures in Schönau Nordwest, which are supported with 2.7 million euros, should contribute to the upgrading of the GBG housing stock.
Overall, the grants aim to secure affordable rents after modernization and at the same time reduce energy consumption and CO2 emissions. The construction of the "Schönau-Weg" is also funded with 1.1 million euros, which will improve the connection and accessibility in this region.
long -term urban development
The ongoing projects are part of a comprehensive urban redevelopment that has been implemented in Mannheim for years. In the past decades, the city has changed through an economic structural change caused by the deduction of the US Army and the relocation of industrial areas. This has led to the creation of new residential and commercial areas, which are also attractive for young companies. An example of this is the Glückstein district that arises on former track and industrial areas and is expected to be completed by 2023.
Overall, Mannheim benefits from a diverse mix of urban planning measures and funding programs. The city has the option of continuously using these funding for the development of urban planning concepts. For example, around 11.9 million euros in infrastructure measures were invested in Käfertal for over 12 years, of which 6.72 million euros came from funding.
