Riots in Leipzig: 15 rioters cause chaos and destruction!
There were significant riots in the Schleußig district of Leipzig on Wednesday evening. A group consisting of 10 to 15 people, some of whom were masked, rioted and caused considerable damage to property. Witnesses alerted the police at around 11:10 p.m. after the unknown suspects committed several acts of vandalism. The perpetrators destroyed the windows of the LVB Stieglitzstrasse stop, smashed the windows of a Sparkasse branch and sprayed graffiti on both a Sparkasse and a Volksbank branch. Several garbage cans and an electric car were also set on fire. The police have secured evidence and cordoned off the crime scenes. Investigations into serious breaches of the peace have been initiated, but the total damage has not yet been quantified LVZ reports.
A similar incident occurred on Sunday night in the south of Leipzig. Here, too, there were riots in which unknown persons set off pyrotechnics and construction site equipment. Graffiti reading “Free Maja” was sprayed on a supermarket. Maja T. is a non-binary person who has been detained in Berlin since December 2023 and extradited to Hungary in June 2024. She is accused of committing bodily harm during protests against right-wing extremists. During the riot, objects were thrown at police officers when they arrived at the scene, but there were no injuries. The fire department had to put out the fire. Investigations into breach of the peace, physical assault on law enforcement officers and damage to property are ongoing, as reported by t online reported.

The events in Leipzig highlight the current situation in the city, where protests and public unrest are increasing.
