Alcohol on the street: minor and 23-year-old collide!

Leipzig is currently the focus of various traffic accidents and criminal activities. In particular, incidents involving alcohol and serious robbery crimes arouse the interest of the investigating authorities.

On October 17, 2025, around 4:50 a.m., a traffic accident occurred on Arno-Nitzsche-Straße in Connewitz, in which a 15-year-old German driver of a Renault Kadjar took the wheel even though he did not have a valid driving license. The teenager collided with a parked VW while turning, which ultimately resulted in the car coming to a stop on the tram tracks. When he was checked by the police, they immediately noticed the smell of alcohol. An alcohol test carried out showed a level of over 0.8 per mille, which ultimately led to a blood test at the Leipzig-Südost police station. The police started an investigation into driving without a license, endangering road traffic and unauthorized use of motor vehicles. These incidents once again demonstrate the dangers posed by drunk drivers.

Hit and run and high damage

Another worrying incident occurred on Sunday morning in Leipzig-Altlindenau, where a 23-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle around 8:15 a.m. He rammed several bicycle bars, causing significant damage worth an estimated 15,000 euros. Instead of dealing with the consequences of his actions, the driver continued his journey and committed a hit-and-run. Witnesses who observed the incident helped police identify the driver. The trail led the officers via an oil slick to his apartment, where the damaged vehicle was found. An alcohol test showed a level of 1.26 per mille. The police ordered a blood sample to be taken and confiscated the young man's driver's license. He is also being investigated for hit and run and endangering road traffic, which underlines the seriousness of the situation.

In addition to traffic accidents, the police are also dealing with serious robbery crimes in Leipzig. An 18-year-old German suspect was taken into custody after a serious robbery offense. Working with a 16-year-old accomplice, he is accused of physically attacking and robbing several people on the nights of October 6th and October 14th. Emergency calls about attacks by masked scooter riders led to extensive police action, which ultimately led to the 18-year-old's arrest and a search warrant. During the apartment search on October 15, the police achieved success by finding fleeing suspected perpetrators who tried to resist arrest. In the meantime, an arrest warrant has been issued on strong suspicion of particularly serious communal robbery and grievous bodily harm. The investigation into the two robberies continues, which highlights the worrying situation in the city.

These incidents shed a worrying light on the security situation in Leipzig and underline the challenges facing the city and its police. It remains to be seen what further information and developments will emerge in the coming days.
