RB Leipzig on Finkgräfe course: 4 million for Cologne's talent!

RB Leipzig is facing a crucial phase in squad planning. The Bundesliga club is intensively working on optimizing the squad for the coming season. A central point is the desired signing of Max Finkgräfe, a 21-year-old left-back who is currently under contract with FC Köln. Loud Picture Leipzig made an offer of around 4 million euros to bring Finkgräfe to Saxony.

Finkgräfe, whose contract with FC Köln runs until summer 2026, only made seven appearances in the starting eleven last season due to injuries. In total he played 809 minutes in the Bundesliga. Given his limited playing time and the current situation at the club, Cologne seems to be willing to let him go in order to get a transfer fee for the talented player.

Negotiations so far

Negotiations between the two Bundesliga clubs have been going on for some time. Leipzig and Cologne are in close communication about transfer modalities, with both clubs needing support on the left side. With David Raum there is only one trained left-back in the Leipzig squad, while Hoffenheim and Stuttgart have also shown interest in Finkgräfe, but there have been no concrete offers from these clubs. Hoffenheim initially made an offer of around 2 million euros, but this was considered too low, according to the report Yahoo Sports.

Another factor in this transfer could be Hoffenheim's decreased interest in Finkgräfe. The signing of Bernardo, who also plays in the left-back position, has helped Hoffenheim no longer feel the same urgency to move Finkgräfe, which is now playing into Leipzig's hands.

Future of the player

Max Finkgräfe is considered a promising player with potential. In the 2023/24 Bundesliga season he was listed with a market value of up to 6 million euros. Its value is currently estimated at around 4 million euros. The club's management agrees that this transfer could represent a win-win situation for both sides. Leipzig would gain a talented player for the defense, while Cologne could solve an impending problem in the squad.

The coming week could be crucial as both clubs look to move closer together and reach an agreement. Leipzig's first transfer this summer was Ezechiel Banzuzi, and Finkgräfe could be another promising newcomer to strengthen the team.
