Disappointment at the air festival in Möckern: Where have the visitors gone?
The traditional flying festival in Möckern faces an uncertain future. In the 32nd year of its history, the Fliegerclub Möckern e.V. had to accept a bitter disappointment in terms of visitor numbers this year. Normally the celebrations attract between 300 and 400 visitors, but this year the numbers fell well short of expectations, greatly saddening the organizers, led by Wolfgang Mathews, the association's chairman.
The Möckern Flying Club can look back on a long tradition that began in the early 90s. Over the years, the club has developed a diverse program for its guests, including flight opportunities, a raffle and various entertainment options. Despite the great efforts invested in the preparation of the flying festival, the response this year remained weak. At the same time, the festival was a sign of hope for future events and the club's work.
Current developments in the flying club
In the internal competitions, the Möckern Aviation Club improved by 15 points in 2024 and is now in 125th place out of 158 in Germany. In the club rankings, he remains in 149th place out of 206. In the HarzCup in 2023, he achieved 8th place out of 14, although the club had previously hoped for a more solid midfield position. These developments demonstrate both the challenges and progress facing the club.
The airport operator has announced that it will use the call sign RADIO for flight operations in the future. This is done in accordance with NfL_2023-1-2726 and is intended to ensure that reports are sent below the frequency of 120.980 Hz. Residents were asked to ensure a certain level of noise protection during arrivals and departures and in particular to avoid the towns of Stegelitz, Tryppehna and the town of Möckern.
Looking into the future
The Möckern Aviation Club also relies on the help of pilots, who are asked to take into account the current information on the ICAO map. This particularly affects the E airspace around Magdeburg in the west, the Bird Area ID 210 Zerbster Land in the south and the restricted airspace ED-R 73 A/B/C in the east. It is also strongly recommended to fly around the surrounding towns at a sufficient distance.
Those responsible for the flying club would like to thank all helpers and supporters for the successful implementation of the flying festival and are optimistic that future challenges can be overcome through joint commitment.
