Since the first episode in January 2001, the 50-year-old has played the role of Chief Detective Jan Maybach. In over 500 episodes, Girnth has solved countless cases and earned a loyal audience. “The time has come for me to leave,” said Girnth. He wants to initiate changes in his life and plans to pursue new projects in 2026. The decision was not easy for him, as he will especially miss his colleague Melanie Marschke, who plays the chief detective Ina Zimmermann. He describes her as a friend, mentor and advice box who was an important support for him in the team. He will also miss the time together on set.
