Hanau is investing 2.6 million euros in a new sports facility for the youth!
On June 27, 2025, the groundbreaking ceremony for a new sports facility on Lindenau took place in Hanau, Großauheim. This development marks the largest investment in the sport in Hanau of the past ten years. Mayor Dr. Maximilian Bieri directed the ceremony and emphasized the importance of this measure to improve the conditions for sports clubs and school sports in the region. The planned sports facility will take an area of more than 35,000 square meters and is intended to serve as a central point of contact for school and club sports.
The new system will not only be available to the main users, the Lindenschule as well as the sports club VfB Großauheim and FC Rot Weiss Großauheim, but also to all other sports people. The equipment includes an artificial turf pitch, a athletics system with a 400-meter circuit, sprint and hurdle railway as well as various jump and throwing systems. A basketball sheet music field is also integrated. The total costs of the project amount to around 2.6 million euros, and the completion is planned by June 2026. The construction work started in June 2025.
modernization of the sports infrastructure
The city of Hanau also modernizes its sports facilities and plans to convert to artificial turf for a total of three sports facilities. These measures aim to create modern training conditions, to promote club sport and to give impulses for integration, health and community. The magistrate has already agreed to convert the sports facilities, whereby the urban self-operating company Hanau Real Estate and Baum Management (IBM) is supposed to prioritize the conversion. The order of the conversion is as follows:
- Rudi-weaker sports facility (Lamboy/Tümpelgarten)
- sports facility medium -bay
- Herbert-Dröse-Stadion
The need for these improvements results from increasing demand as a result of growing population in Hanau. Artificial turf pitches offer year -round training opportunities, which are particularly advantageous in the winter months. Due to the lighting of the places, the service life increases significantly, which is crucial for the clubs. During the summer months, up to five additional hours per week and up to 17 hours can be obtained in the winter months, since weather -related closures are eliminated. The materials used for the artificial turf should be environmentally friendly and sustainable, which gives the city of Hanau another plus of environmental awareness.
a long -term process
These measures are part of a comprehensive plan to improve the sporting infrastructure in Hanau and are based on an analysis by the "Institute for Cooperative Planning and Sports Development" (IKPS) and the "Office for Social Cohesion and Sport". The focus is also on use by young teams in order to better integrate children and young people. The special importance of the Rudi-People's sports facility for the district of Lamboy/Tümpelgarten is highlighted, since the idea of a multifunctional "sports park" is pursued here. For the Herbert-Dröse Stadium, there could also be plans to expand it into a national sports center.
Through these comprehensive investments in the sports infrastructure, Hanau sets a strong sign of promoting sport and community. Citizens can look forward to modern, well -equipped sports facilities that meet both the needs of current users as well as to benefit future generations.
