On the weekend of July 19th to 20th, 2025, visitors to Altenburg can expect an extensive cultural tour program that focuses on both history and art. Organized by the Altenburg Museums, the event offers the opportunity to experience the city's impressive architecture and historical collections up close. On Saturday, July 19th, the first tour starts at 2 p.m. with a tour of the towers of the residential palace. The cultural scientist Marco Karthe will guide the participants through the architectural details and explain the historical functions of the towers. The number of participants is limited to 12 people; prior registration is necessary. The participation fee is only 3 EUR.

Diverse topics on Sunday

The following day, Sunday, July 20th, will continue with two exciting tours. The tour “Stars over Paris – Sergio Birga and Modernism” begins at 11 a.m. in the Prinzenpalais Altenburg, which is led by Emilia Pradel, a project employee at the Lindenau Museum. This tour is dedicated to the works of Sergio Birga and his inspiration from literary dreams and nighttime impressions from Paris, as well as their references to Franz Kafka. Admission to this event is EUR 4, reduced EUR 3.

At 2 p.m., another highlight awaits participants with the tour “Dying while enjoying the beautiful is beautiful,” which is dedicated to the life and art collection of Duke August of Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. This event will take place in the Altenburg Castle and Playing Card Museum and will once again be led by Marco Karthe.
