Leipzig, Deutschland - In 2025, the ICE plant in Leipzig should have celebrated its 15th anniversary. But at the beginning of the year, the planned anniversary celebration had to be canceled due to economic challenges. Works manager Klaus Adamsen-Buttkus, however, confirmed that a celebration should be made up for together with the announced summer festival. This positive turn gives hope to employees and shows that the current situation of the work has improved. The ICE plant of Deutsche Bahn (DB) in Leipzig was put into operation in December 2009 after the groundbreaking ceremony took place in April 2006 on the site of the former Berlin train station on Rackwitzer Strasse. It is responsible for the maintenance of ICE T of the 411 and 415 series as well as locomotive-covered Intercity trains. Since 2015/16, the work has also been maintaining the Intercity 2, a modern double -decker car and electrolocomotives of the 146 and 147 series.

Various range of tasks and modern infrastructure

The maintenance work includes the exchange of driving engines and the review of wheel sets, doors, toilets and air conditioning systems. An approx. 200 meter long workshop hall with two tracks, crane systems and roof work platforms supports the employees in their demanding work.

An important step in the development of the work was the commissioning of a modern train treatment plant at the end of 2018, which has two approx. 420 meter long cleaning platform. This innovative equipment significantly improves the efficiency and quality of the maintenance processes. According to Deutsche Bahn work nationwide over 5,530 employees in the nine ICE works, while another work in Cottbus is currently under construction is.

The DB pursues the goal of stabilizing the company by 2027 with its "S3" renovation program and increasing punctuality in long -distance transport to over 75 percent. The focus is on the renovation of the infrastructure, the stabilization of rail operations and the strengthening of economy. These binding goals are coordinated with the DB supervisory board and the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport.
