Art and creativity are blooming: Mobile studio opens in Holzhausen!
On June 11, 2025, a new chapter in art history was opened in Holzhausen am Ammersee: The Mobile Atelier, initiated by the artists Hanna Kuster and Lara Werth. The opening ceremony attracted numerous visitors, including the mayor of Utting. The duo “Ammersee-Amseln”, consisting of Monika Drasch and Carolin Völk, created a festive atmosphere with traditional songs such as the folk song “Thoughts are free”. Augsburger Allgemeine reports that the event marks the start of a creative exchange and inspiring encounters in the region.
The Mobile Atelier will be operated in the former Malek House and will be open to the public until July 19, 2025. The initiative is supported under the patronage of the JES Cultural Foundation and the municipality of Utting with the aim of bringing art to rural areas. At the opening, Florian Feller from the JES Cultural Foundation emphasized the important revival of the almost 100-year history of art in Holzhausen.
History of the artists' colony
Around 1900, Holzhausen was the center of an influential artists' colony, which was primarily known for its contemporary Art Nouveau style. Many of the studio houses that were used by artists back then have been preserved to this day. The historical significance of this colony is also discussed in the planned tours, which trace the life and work of the artists in Holzhausen. Art tour emphasizes that these tours cover a distance of around 3 km, starting in the artists' house of Mathias and Anne-Sophie Gasteiger and ending in the high cemetery of the local church of St. Ulrich, where many artists are buried.
A multimedia exhibition will also be shown in the Malek House, which links the stories of the Holzhausen artists with the works of Kuster and Werth. Kuster, who has refined her techniques with watercolor and oil on paper, often addresses human aspects in her work. Werth, on the other hand, reflects her travels in her artwork and combines landscapes with urban elements.
Artistic workshops and events
The program in the Mobile Atelier includes several workshops that are open to different age groups. An “After Work Art” event will be offered on June 13th, followed by a meeting for older people on June 22nd, combining art, coffee and cake. Parent-child workshops on July 6th and a conversation with the artists on July 11th are also on the agenda.
The series of events is complemented by a special cooperation: On June 14th, Lara Werth invites you to an innovative combination of art and Thai boxing with “Art Meets Sport”. In addition, there will be “open studios” in Utting and Holzhausen on June 27th, which offer the general public the opportunity to immerse themselves in the creative world of the artists.
The opening of the mobile studio not only marks the start of a new artistic project, but also the continuation of a long tradition of art in Holzhausen, which is being reinterpreted by contemporary artists.
