The Wave-Gotik-Treffen (WGT) in Leipzig is not only an important music festival, but also offers numerous eerie experiences that unfold in the surrounding area. The horror tours offered in the historic city are particularly popular. This year there are two special events on the program: the scary tour and the cemetery tour.
The scary tour takes place in the New Augusteum at the University of Leipzig. From Thursday, June 5th, 2025 to Monday, June 9th, 2025, those interested can take part in various dates. Scary stories at the Old Johannisfriedhof
Another highlight is the cemetery tour, which is also offered as part of the WGT. This takes place at the Old Johannisfriedhof, which is almost 750 years old and houses the oldest burial site in the city. Over a quarter of a million people were buried here, giving the place an impressive history. The “Corpses, Leprosy, Lucifer” tour is led by a death guard or banshee and presents the mystical and eerie secrets of the cemetery.
The tour covers topics such as the pact with the devil, the suicide of the children of a famous personality and the possible wrong burial of the great composer Johann Sebastian Bach.
