Robert Farken from Leipzig breaks the German mile record!
Robert Farken achieved remarkable success at the Diamond League meeting in Oslo. The 27-year-old from Leipzig from SG Motor Gohlis-Nord set a new German mile record on Thursday by running the distance in 3:49.12 minutes. In doing so, he improved Jens-Peter Herold's previous record of 3:49.22 minutes, which had stood since 1988, by 0.10 seconds. Farken remains a prominent figure in the world of athletics, as he also already holds a German record in the 1,500 meters, which he set just less than a week ago at the Diamond League meeting in Rome.
In his record race in Oslo, a total of 10 out of 13 participants achieved personal bests, which underlines the high competitive quality of the event. Isaac Nader from Portugal also set a national record with a time of 3:48.25 minutes and secured victory in this race. Other athletes who showed strong performances include Cameron Myers from Australia, who took second place with a time of 3:48.87 minutes, and Stefan Nillessen from the Netherlands, who came third with a time of 3:49.02 minutes.
Strong competition and impressive performances
It is precisely the variety of records that day that makes the meeting in Oslo remarkable. In addition to Farken's new record, numerous other national records were also set. This includes:
- Samuel Pihlström (Schweden) – 3:49,70 Minuten
- Federico Riva (Italien) – 3:49,72 Minuten
- Ruben Verheyden (Belgien) – 3:50,67 Minuten
Farken's record run is now being forwarded to the relevant authorities for ratification, but the enthusiasm surrounding his success is already palpable. This achievement builds on his recent triumph in Rome, where he also set a German record in the 1,500 meters.
More competitions and results
The meeting wasn't just a highlight for Farken. Berlin sprinter Gina Brückenkemper was able to prove her strength in the 100 meter sprint, even though she took sixth place with a time of 11.16 seconds. Victory in this race went to Olympic champion Julien Alfred from St. Lucia, who achieved the fastest time of 10.89 seconds. Dina Asher-Smith, the European champion from Great Britain, finished the race in third place with 11.08 seconds.
An unfortunate incident occurred for Gesa Felicitas Krause from Trier, who fell over the 3,000 meter obstacle in her first competition of the season and was unable to continue the race. In the same race, Lea Meyer from Löningen put in a respectable performance with a time of 9:09.21 minutes and took fourth place.
The exciting atmosphere and great performances at the Diamond League meeting in Oslo make it clear that athletics continues to produce young talents ready to break records and carry on the tradition of the sport. Farken is without a doubt a shining example of what can be achieved with dedication and hard work.
