Restricted areas in Gohlis and Altlindenau: Leipzig ensures more safety!

In the coming weeks, the city of Leipzig will begin marking restricted areas in three narrow streets, namely Roßlauer Straße, Rabenerstraße and Goetzstraße. As the Leipzig Internet newspaper reported, these measures will be implemented starting the week beginning Monday, October 13th. The costs for this project amount to around 3,500 euros.

The aim of the markings is to increase traffic and supply safety, especially for emergency vehicles and city cleaning. The newly created restricted areas are intended to ensure that the towing curves of larger emergency vehicles are kept clear. These measures are part of the city's comprehensive mobility strategy, which aims to increase traffic safety and create barrier-free public spaces.

Part of the mobility strategy

The markings in Gohlis and Altlindenau are not the first of their kind. Since 2021, one-sided markings have been placed on over 50 narrow streets to clarify the parking regulations. These steps are part of the city-wide project to make mobility in Leipzig safer. Further information about the mobility strategy is available on the official website of the city of Leipzig: www.leipzig.de/mobilitaetsstrategie.

An overarching goal of these measures is the implementation of the “Pact for Road Safety”, which is supported by the federal, state and local authorities. In accordance with the road safety program 2021 to 2030, Germany is pursuing Vision Zero: no deaths or serious injuries in road traffic. This highlights the importance of current initiatives to improve road safety, which are important not only locally but also in the European context. Information on the road safety strategies of the European Union, the federal government and the states is documented and accessible on the relevant platforms.
