David Wagner takes over young people at RB Leipzig - the focus!

Leipzig, Deutschland - David Wagner returns to Germany and takes over the management of the young department at RB Leipzig. He succeeds Manuel Baum, who clears his post for personal reasons after the end of the season. Wagner, who most recently worked as a coach at Norwich City and has been without a club since May 2024, sees his new role a great chance. The promotion of young talents in particular has a top priority for him, which he demonstrated at previous stations such as Huddersfield Town and Borussia Dortmund.

Marcel Schäfer, the managing director of Sport at RB Leipzig, commented on Wagner's commitment and emphasizes his passion for talented young talent work. He sees Wagner an ideal candidate to strengthen the permeability to the professional area. At his first manager post, Wagner wants to contribute his international experience to improve development work in the club. He emphasizes that the connection between young talent and the professional team is very important to him.

plans and collaboration with Jürgen Klopp

Wagner plans to redesign the youth work at RB Leipzig and to focus on the targeted promotion of young talents. It is particularly interesting that he recently spoke in Leipzig together with Jürgen Klopp about the transition from young talent to professional sports. Klopp, who works as a "Head of Global Soccer" for the Red Bull Group, has brought Wagner to his new role at RB Leipzig and sees great potential in its skills.

The official takeover of Wagner's new position takes place on July 1st. It is Wagner's first manager post after working as a coach in several clubs such as Schalke 04, Young Boys Bern and most recently Norwich City. During his time at Schalke, Wagner had fewer successes and had to leave the club in 2020 after 18 games without a win. However, his greatest success was the promotion with Huddersfield Town in the Premier League in 2017.

In the coming months, Wagner will be responsible for promoting talent development in Leipzig and establishing the association as an important address for young players. This challenge takes place against the background that RB Leipzig is increasingly relating to a strong academy in order to secure your own future and at the same time to remain competitive in professional football.
