Federal Administrative Court: Dispute of ban on the right -wing extremist magazine Compact
Leipzig, Deutschland - The Federal Administrative Court started negotiations on the ban on the right -wing extremist magazine "Compact" today. The decision is expected after the ban was partially suspended in an urgent procedure last year. This suspension was based on doubts about the proportionality of the ban, which meant that the magazine could continue to appear under strict editions. The then Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser (SPD) initiated the ban in July 2024, since the magazine, in its opinion, violates the constitutional order. In this context, the Federal Ministry found that "Compact" spreads anti -Semitic, racist and historical revisionist content that pursues the objective of constitutional goals.
The first days of negotiations are scheduled for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week. However, a time for the judgment has not yet been determined. During the negotiations, the focus will be on questions about the proportionality of the ban. The magazine argues that a ban can only be justified if the requirements for it are clearly met. In addition, "Compact" emphasizes that a press and media company should not be banned on the basis of the Association Act.
who is affected?
As part of the right-wing extremist structures, Compact-Magazin GmbH and Conspect Film GmbH are targeted by the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution. Since the end of 2021, they have been classified as secured right -wing extremist associations. This classification has led to the confiscation and confiscation of the association's assets of "Compact". Despite these serious allegations, however, the magazine was still able to appear while the lawsuit against the ban was negotiated.
The Federal Administrative Court also notes that some of the texts of “Compact” have indications of violations of human dignity. However, these doubts about the relevance of individual text sections for the ban are also pulled into the calculation. In this tension between the protection of freedom of expression and the prohibition of anti -constitutional content, the court will now have to make the course.
The developments related to the ban on "Compact" are not only of legal, but also of social importance. The outcome of the procedure could have far -reaching consequences for the regulation of media in the context of extremism in Germany. Observers are excited to see how the court will decide on this complex matter.
