In a dramatic operation, 40 firefighters fought a devastating basement fire in a high-rise residential building on Florian-Geyer-Straße in Johannstadt on the night of June 24, 2025. The fire broke out around 10:28 p.m. and kept emergency services busy until the early hours of the morning, until around 4:03 a.m.
Among the brave helpers were units from the Albertstadt, Übigau, Striesen and Altstadt fire and rescue stations as well as the Johannstadt rescue team. The intensive operation required not only the preparedness of the fire brigade, but also coordinated action to prevent the smoke from spreading more widely into neighboring buildings. Dramatic scenes were witnessed as firefighters responded to fight the flames and prevent direct damage.
