Abandoned backpacks at the Chemnitz train station: deployment of the federal police

Yesterday morning, around 9:05 a.m., two abandoned backpacks caused a stir in Chemnitz main station. The federal police forces discovered the suspicious pieces of luggage in the entrance area of the federal police station and were unable to locate the owner, despite video analysis and announcements from the station management.

The main entrance and the front part of the main hall were immediately closed and the defusing service was alerted. This is not the first time that Chemnitz Central Station has made the headlines because of suspicious pieces of luggage: it was only on June 29, 2025 that the defuser was called because of an abandoned suitcase. This also turned out to be harmless, but the owners, who had parked the suitcase due to a defect, now have to pay the costs of the operation.
