Arson shocks Schleußig: 33-year-old in custody!
On the night of Thursday to Friday, another attempt at arson rocked Antonienstrasse in the Schleußig district, where a VW Caddy was supposed to be set ablaze. Thanks to rapid extinguishing efforts by police officers on site, a full-scale fire in the vehicle was averted. During the night investigation, a 33-year-old German was identified as a suspect and was provisionally arrested that night after consultation with the Leipzig public prosecutor's office.
He is also suspected of having committed several arson attacks in the Schleußig and Plagwitz districts in recent days. On Friday afternoon he was seen by the investigating judge at the Leipzig District Court, who issued an arrest warrant. The 33-year-old is accused of nine counts of arson and attempted murder resulting in grievous bodily harm. He was taken to a correctional facility while the investigation continues.
