On the last matchday of the season, the Leipzigers secured the championship title after the competition from SG Rotation Prenzlauer Berg failed in the final minute against Berlin HC. The ATV needed both a victory and a mistake by the direct competitors to win the championship.

In the decisive game against the Steglitzer TK, the ATV women showed a combative performance. After a deficit, the team managed to compensate for only in the 39th minute before Holly Rebel scored the decisive goal for the narrow victory. Charlotte Raatz, the team captain, was happy about winning the title, but emphasized that the team wanted to do without the promotion to the next higher league for personnel reasons. The reason for this is injuries and the small size of the squad, which only included 13 players in many games.

The focus on the next season

The waiver of the ascent is a strategic decision that should enable the team to fight for the championship title again in the coming season. Raatz explained that the priority is to form a stable team and to have a better squad available. In this context, the farewell of defender Celina Düring, who announced her move to Hamburg, is also mentioned.

At the same time, the men of the ATV Leipzig ended the season in a solid second place in their league. In the last game they separated 2-2 from the Cöthener HC and at the end of the season they were eleven points behind the master. Changes are also gradually carried out in men: Captain Johannes Dimter and Leonard Schöning leave the club.
