Arsenal are fighting for Sesko and Gyökeres: who will be the new star?

The transfer market is moving, and Arsenal in particular are showing great interest in two promising strikers: Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig and Viktor Gyökeres from Sporting Lisbon. Current developments suggest that coach Mikel Arteta is planning to strengthen the attack.

Benjamin Sesko, a 22-year-old striker, has scored an impressive 21 goals in 45 appearances this season. Arteta is confident in the young talent's abilities, while RB Leipzig are seeking a record fee of up to 100 million euros for him. Arsenal, on the other hand, would like to stay below the release clause of 80 million euros with an offer of between 65 and 70 million euros. However, so far there has been no contact between the two clubs, which seems to be due to internal disagreements within the Leipzig club and not due to excessive demands.

Arsenal are focusing on Gyökeres

While Arsenal are also interested in Sesko, Viktor Gyökeres is considered sporting director Andrea Berta's preferred target. Gyökeres scored 39 goals for Sporting Lisbon last season, making a crucial contribution to the team's title win. Arsenal have already made an offer of €60 million, but it was rejected by Sporting. The club refers to a release clause of 100 million euros, but is prepared to negotiate a maximum amount of 80 million euros.

Negotiations for Gyökeres are more complex as both Arsenal and Manchester United have expressed interest in him. Gyökeres has three years left on his contract after joining Sporting from Coventry City in 2023. One problem is that the player hoped to control his transfer options himself, but Sporting require interested parties to negotiate directly with them. This could prolong discussions on the price and modalities as there are tensions between Gyökeres and the club.

Arsenal's offense is in transition

Arsenal have consistently finished second in the Premier League in recent years without winning the title, which has now been 21 years. With the intention of finally fighting for the championship again, Mikel Arteta would like to upgrade the offensive accordingly. The moves of either Sesko or Gyökeres could therefore be crucial for the team's development, while negotiations remain challenging for both players and clubs. The focus now is on getting results before the end of June, as transfer expert Ben Jacobs reports.

Overall, it remains to be seen whether Arsenal can actually reach an agreement for one of the two talents and how the negotiations surrounding Gyökeres develop. While the potential of the players from RB Leipzig and Sporting Lisbon is undeniable, in addition to the financial aspects, internal club politics and negotiation tactics also influence the decision-making processes of both clubs.

In summary, Arsenal are entering an exciting transfer phase in which both Benjamin Sesko and Viktor Gyökeres could play a role.
