Construction site alarm: diversions for trams and traffic in Leipzig!
Significant track construction work is scheduled to take place in the east of Leipzig in August, which will have an impact on tram and car traffic. The Leipziger Verkehrsbetriebe (LVB) informs that the construction work on Breite Straße and Riebeckstraße will be carried out over several weeks. These measures are part of a comprehensive repair operation that is expected to last until September 19th Day24 reported.
The renewal of the tracks will take place in different sections. In detail, this affects Breite Straße between Wurzner Straße and Crottendorfer Straße until September 19th. Work is also taking place on Riebeckstrasse, both at Mühlstrasse and at Stötteritzer Strasse, which should be completed by September 14th.
Detours and traffic restrictions
Due to this construction work, tram traffic on Breite Straße and Riebeckstraße will be interrupted. Tram line 4 will be rerouted and will run from Reudnitz, Koehlerstraße to the replacement terminus at Sellerhausen, Emmausstraße. Line 12 will be replaced by a construction line. Line 32, on the other hand, runs between Gohlis-Nord and Stötteritz via the zoo, main station and technical town hall. Bus routes are not affected by these changes and will operate as usual.
In addition, construction work is taking place at several locations in the city at the same time. From Monday there will also be extensive diversions on the tracks at Augustusplatz and Dresdner Straße. How LVZ reports, tram lines 4, 7 and 12 are affected, which will lead to significant changes in traffic.
Freedom of movement for drivers and cyclists
Cars and cyclists can drive past the construction site, but must expect narrowed lanes. It is recommended to use alternative routes. At the same time, construction work by the Leipzig waterworks is also underway on Zweinaundorfer Straße, which will last until May 2026. These measures help to improve the infrastructure, but also mean some restrictions on daily traffic.
Leipzig residents and visitors should prepare for diversions and traffic delays early on. It is advisable to regularly check the current information from LVB in order to stay well informed. The city administration asks for your understanding for the necessary construction work, which will serve to improve local public transport in the long term.
