Price competition New paths should strengthen gastronomy in Upper Lusatia!

The association for the development of the Oberlausitzer Heide and Teichlandschaft e.V. has launched an exciting price competition under the motto "New Ways for the Gastronomy". The aim of this initiative is to promote creative and sustainable projects in gastronomy as well as food production and marketing in the OHTL Region. The region includes the cities of Bautzen, Weißenberg, Wittichenau and twelve other municipalities, all of which offer a remarkable potential for innovative approaches in the hospitality industry. The closing date for ideas is August 4, 2025. wittichenau.de reports that the competition should not only apply, but also the importance of the restaurateurs and local food producers.

What is special about this competition? The total price money of 25,000 euros is spread over two categories. In the first category, projects from 10,000 euros can be submitted, for example for automatic sales machines or the expansion of external catering. For this, the top three participants will win prices between 3,000 and 7,000 euros. The second category deals with smaller projects below 10,000 euros, such as the design of menus or the marketing of regional products. The first places in this category can win up to 2,500 euros. The evaluation takes place by a jury that selects the best contributions on September 29, 2025, with criteria such as creativity, sustainable effect and networking of regional providers.

regional products in focus

The promotion of regional products is the focus of the competition. More and more restaurants are relying on seasonal and local ingredients. This decision is not only a contribution to reducing environmental pollution, but also brings fresh and more intensive food to the table. Numerous companies that rely on regional products report a positive response and a growing interest of different guests. In terms of sustainability, cooperation with local producers is of great importance because it supports the regional economy. This cooperation also ensures that the CO2 balance sheet is improved by food because the transport routes become shorter.

In addition, regional products are often better characterized, which helps consumers to make well -founded decisions. Reliable labels such as the egg code or the regional window provide information about the origin and make it easier to make sustainable decisions when buying.

conditions of participation and outlook

In order to take part in the competition, all actors from gastronomy, hospitality and food production in the LEADER region are entitled. Note that each participant can only submit one project idea and the conveyed projects have to be implemented within two years after the prize money is paid out. There is no legal claim to prize money, and the use is only intended for the awarded project. An exciting award ceremony will take place in November 2025, which celebrates the best ideas and is to further increase the visibility of the OHTL region.  Wochenurier.info informs about the further steps.

For questions, regional management is available on phone 035931 16560 or by email to regional@ohtl.de to support interested participants. Take part and bring a breath of fresh air to the gastronomy of the OHTL region!
