On June 21, 2025, the Saxon Youth Journalism Awards for outstanding student work were awarded at the Villa Ida media campus in Leipzig.

Saxon Youth Journalism Prize 2025: Talents from Leipzig honored!

The award ceremony for the Saxon Youth Journalism Prize 2025 took place on Saturday at the Villa Ida media campus in Leipzig and celebrated the creative talents of young journalists from all over Saxony. This year, a total of 33 prizes were awarded in different categories that honor the diversity and commitment in the student press. The award-winning works included contributions from elementary schools, special schools, high schools, high schools and community schools, individual contributions as well as photographs and illustrations. Promotional prizes for start-ups, online presence and cultural journalism were also recognized. Loud Tixio The awarded total editions received prize money of 100, 300 or 500 euros, while individual contributions were awarded 40, 60 or 80 euros.

The event was organized by the Jugendpresse Sachsen e.V. and the Ministry of Culture. The jury was made up of representatives from Saxony's youth press, the Saxon Ministry of Culture and experienced journalists from various media. The submissions were evaluated based on a variety of criteria, including the journalistic approach, the variety of topics and the design of the contributions, as well as taking the students' interests into account. These comprehensive evaluation standards are intended to ensure that the award-winning works represent high-quality and relevant contributions. This year there were 172 submissions, which represents a significant increase compared to last year.

    – 2. Preis je Schulart: 300 Euro
    – 3. Preis je Schulart: 100 Euro
  • Einzelbeiträge (Alterskategorien):
    – Kategorie I: 6-10 Jahre
    – Kategorie II: 11-14 Jahre
    – Kategorie III: ab 15 Jahre
    – 1. Preis je Kategorie: 80 Euro
    – 2. Preis je Kategorie: 60 Euro
    – 3. Preis je Kategorie: 40 Euro
  • Foto/Illustration (Alterskategorien):
    – Kategorie I: 6-10 Jahre
    – Kategorie II: ab 11 Jahren
    – 1. Preis: 80 Euro
    – 2. Preis: 60 Euro
    – 3. Preis: 40 Euro
  • Förderpreis Aufsteigende:
    – Beste neu gegründete Schülerzeitung des Schuljahres: 200 Euro
  • Sonderpreis Online:
    – Beste Online-Schülerzeitung bzw. bester Schülerblog: 300 Euro
  • Sonderpreis Kulturjournalismus:
    – Beste Beiträge aus dem Bereich Kultur: Gutscheine von Kultureinrichtungen in Sachsen

The best contributions from the field of cultural journalism, which received vouchers from cultural institutions in Saxony, received a special award. These prizes are intended to promote interest in cultural topics and highlight the appreciation for cultural diversity in Saxony. The work was evaluated not only by journalistic professionals, but also taking into account criteria such as creativity in content and design implementation, as shown on Youth press Saxony is emphasized.

The awarding of the Saxon Youth Journalism Prize is an important step towards promoting young talent in journalism and strengthening the school press in Saxony.
