Leipzig's Küf Kaufmann receives the Saxon Order of Merit for commitment!

The Saxon Order of Merit will be awarded in Dresden on June 17, 2025, and one of the most renowned personalities to receive this award is Küf Kaufmann. The 78-year-old chairman of the Jewish religious community in Leipzig is known for his tireless commitment to promoting Jewish life and culture in Saxony. This was announced by the State Chancellery on Wednesday in Dresden Jewish general was reported.

Kaufmann, who also works as an author, director and cabaret artist, has been committed to interreligious dialogue and intercultural exchange over the years. Since 2005 he has headed the Jewish community in Leipzig and runs the Ariowitsch House, which serves as a center for Jewish culture. The list of honored personalities is impressive and includes:

  • Renate Stolze und Dorothea Langefeld (Plauen): Organisieren Bildungs- und Freizeitangebote für ältere Menschen.
  • Karin Fünfstück (Hoyerswerda): Engagiert sich seit über 50 Jahren als Pionierin der Sportakrobatik in Sachsen.
  • Prof. Dr. Lothar Ungerer (Meerane): Ehemaliger Bürgermeister, hat sich in der Bildung und Kommunalpolitik verdient gemacht.
  • Barbara Schönfeld (Chemnitz): Betreut Kinder aus schwierigen familiären Verhältnissen über 25 Jahre.
  • Ulrike Lewe (Leipzig): Engagiert sich in der Hospiz- und Palliativarbeit.
