Leipzig is investing 400,000 euros in the most modern disaster protection!

The district of Leipzig has taken a significant step in the field of disaster protection with an investment volume of around 400,000 euros. District Administrator Henry Graichen handed over new emergency vehicles and technical equipment in Borna at the Fire Technical Center (FTZ), which are intended to significantly improve the operational readiness of the fire brigades. In addition to Graichen, district fire chief Nils Adam as well as employees of the Office for Fire Protection, emergency services and disaster protection took part in the event, which jointly emphasized the importance of modern equipment for the safety of the population. Disaster protection is closely networked in the district with the local fire brigades, which further increases efficiency in emergencies.

The newly handed over vehicles and devices are specifically geared towards the needs of disaster protection trains. The highlights include:

  • A new operational control car 1 for the Borna volunteer fire brigade and another for the Pegau volunteer fire brigade, which replace vehicles over ten years old.
  • A device car logistics for the volunteer fire brigade Wurzen to support logistical tasks in the event of use.
  • A new command car for the deputy district fire chief in the Wurzen inspection area, also as a replacement for a vehicle over ten years old.
  • Two modern circular regional systems to combat forest and vegetation fires that were handed over to the fire brigades.
  • The first fully electric vehicle in the fire and disaster protection of the district, which is used for preventive fire protection.

financing and support

This investment is largely financed from the district's own funds. On the occasion of the handover, it was also pointed out that 26,000 euros of funding from the Free State were used for the new commands. This attracted attention to the efforts of the federal government and the country to modernize the equipment in disaster protection and thus to ensure better responsiveness in an emergency.

A new fire service center is opened in Chemnitz at the same time. This center, which is located on Feuerwache III in the Jagdschänkenstraße, includes a modern functional building with technology rooms, common rooms for disaster protection staff and administrative rooms with training and advisory services. The opening, which took place on Saturday, was accompanied by Mayor Barbara Ludwig (SPD). The center is intended to significantly improve the regional fire brigade training and the possible uses of the fire brigade.

comprehensive practice areas and investment costs

The fire department center is equipped with 18 parking spaces for trucks and a wide range of exercise areas that are currently still under construction. The completion of the practice areas is planned by the end of the year and includes an exercise storm and rubble fields. The original construction costs of 6.25 million euros have increased to 7.8 million euros due to extended requirements.

These developments in Leipzig and Chemnitz illustrate the continuous efforts to protect modern and powerful disaster protection in the Free State of Saxony. Both the district of Leipzig and the city of Chemnitz set important accents for the safety of the population.
