Leipzig celebrates diversity: Intercultural weeks start on August 22nd!

On Friday, August 22, 2025, this will take place at Leipzig's BurgplatzTwin City Festival 2025instead, that the34th Intercultural Weeks Leipzigopened. This event runs from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and will be ceremonially opened by Mayor Burkhard Jung at 1 p.m. The festival is all about cooperation with 15 partner cities and is intended to promote intercultural diversity in Leipzig.

The entire event is supported by various transcultural associations, initiatives and town twinning associations and offers a varied stage program. International choral music, dance performances and theater performances are planned to delight the audience. Creative hands-on activities and interactive offers for children, such as a screen printing workshop, are also part of the program.

Diverse program until the end of September

The intercultural weeks last until September 28th and offer a wide range of events. More than 65 clubs and initiatives take part and present a total of 123 different events. This includes workshops, readings, films and encounters, all of which help to celebrate and promote diversity in Leipzig.

Manuela Andrich, the Commissioner for Migration and Integration, emphasizes the high level of participation and the varied offering that is accessible to all citizens. The entire program of the intercultural weeks can be viewed on the official website of the city of Leipzig: leipzig.de/ikw.

The twin city festival is being held for the second time this year and places a special emphasis on the joint stand of the twin towns. Visitors can look forward to information, games, a quiz wheel and the opportunity to exchange ideas. This festival is an excellent opportunity to strengthen the intercultural community in Leipzig and make new acquaintances.
