Fire in Dresden State Operetta: Fire brigade fights against flames!
On the evening of June 7, 2025, a fire broke out in the old state operetta in Dresden-Leuben. The alarm was received by the fire department at 7:37 p.m. and it quickly became clear that the roof of the building was on fire. The fire department is on site with several turntable ladders and around 60 emergency services to bring the situation under control. A heavy development of smoke can be observed, with the smoke cloud changing in direction due to changing winds.
Fortunately, no people have been found in the building so far. However, one firefighter had to be treated on an outpatient basis due to circulatory problems. The emergency services decided to let the roof structure burn down in a controlled manner in order to better get to the source of the fire. Entering the building is considered too dangerous, which makes extinguishing the fire considerably more difficult.
Evacuations and restrictions
Residents within a one kilometer radius of the fire site were asked to keep windows and doors closed and to turn off ventilation systems. For safety reasons, two adjacent residential buildings were also evacuated as a precaution. The Pirnaer Landstrasse is completely closed due to the operation, which leads to further traffic disruptions.
The Dresden transport company has already reported several cancellations and diversions: Line 2 is being diverted from Friedhof Leuben to Laubegast, line 46 is running from Friedhof Leuben to Albert-Wolf-Platz and the Altleuben stop cannot be reached by line 65.
Traditional venue
The Dresden State Operetta, which has a tradition of over 240 years as a musical folk theater, has been housed in the former inn in Leuben since October 1947. In December 2016 she moved to the center of the city. This fire represents a bitter blow to the cultural institution.
A similar major fire occurred on Friday morning in an empty building in Dresden-Neustadt, which was extinguished around 3 p.m., which probably placed additional demands on the fire department teams. The extinguishing work in the state operetta is expected to last until Saturday while the emergency services continue to work on site.
