Give the gift of Christmas joy: How to help those in need in Leipzig!
For many people in Leipzig, the Christmas season is not only contemplative and festive, but also increasingly challenging. Inflation is a constant companion and means that many households have to pay particular attention to their budget in the run-up to Christmas. Against this background, Leipziger Tafel e.V. is committed to supporting disadvantaged people and bringing a little joy through donations in kind. This reports Day24.
Valuable support is offered by partner MyPlace SelfStorage, which has been accepting donations in kind at the Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße 35 branch since Monday, December 15th. These are stored in a special “donation compartment” and distributed to those in need during food distribution before Christmas. Tafel employees emphasize that the run-up to Christmas is particularly tight for many people.
Donations needed
Tafel Leipzig has identified specific needs for the upcoming holidays. The following donations in kind are urgently needed:
- Originalverpackte Hygieneartikel: Shampoo, Zahnpasta, Waschmittel
- Originalverpackte, haltbare Lebensmittel: Nudeln, Reis, Knäckebrot, Konserven
- Ketchup, Senf
- Süßwaren für die Weihnachtszeit
Donations are accepted during the branch's regular opening hours: weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Since 2010, MyPlace SelfStorage has established a tradition of holding fundraisers in cities where they have locations.
The distribution points of the food bank
Tafel Leipzig e.V. operates a total of six distribution points where food is distributed for a small fee. These institutions are a valuable point of contact for many people who need financial support.
The pre-Christmas season is approaching and while others can enjoy the festive atmosphere, for many people in Leipzig the main focus is on fighting inflation. However, there are ways to get involved and bring joy to others during this time. With commitment and warmth, we can work together to make this Christmas season a little brighter for everyone.
