South suburb in Leipzig lame - cause unclear!

On Monday afternoon, June 16, 2025, a large -scale power failure occurred in Leipzig that affected several households in the southern suburb. Over 52 failures have already been documented in Leipzig this year, while the municipal utilities are looking for the cause of the current problem. The August-Bebel-Straße, Kurt-Eisner-Straße, Fichtestrasse and Kantstraße are particularly affected. The trams on Karl-Liebknecht-Straße between Rich-Lehmann-Straße and Kurt-Eisner-Straße cannot currently run like the lvz reported.

The Leipzig Stadtwerke are already active to find a solution for the power failure. An exact cause has not yet been identified. These disorders are not unusual, because the power failure statistics for Leipzig shows a partly worrying development in 2025, follow the year 2024, in which there were a total of 138 failures, such as the website Stromausfall.org Notice.

statistics in comparison

The failure of the past few months clarifies that Leipzig already recorded 10 failures at the end of May and 19 failures until the current time in June. In comparison, January 2025 was rather quiet with 9 failures, while February with 32 failures had the highest amount of disruptions in the first quarter. Below is an overview of the power failures in Leipzig 2025 after months:

month Number of failures
January 9
February 32
March 22
April 23
May 10
June 19

The municipal utilities are working intensively on clarifying the situation and making electricity available to the affected residents as quickly as possible. There are also top failures in the area, for example in Geithain, Brandis and Borna, which are also affected by the general problem.

The Leipzig citizens are concerned because a constant power supply is essential for everyday life. The figures from previous years show that a total of 138 failures were registered in 2024, which indicates a potentially increasing problem. The analysis of these statistics suggests that further measures could be necessary to improve the infrastructure in order to protect the residents from such disorders.
