Robbery in Dresden: 19-year-old flees from young perpetrators!

There was an attempted robbery in Dresden on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, in which a 19-year-old man was attacked by three young people in the Postplatz area. The perpetrators demanded money and used violence. The victim suffered minor injuries but was able to escape. Thanks to a criminal investigation department that happened to be patrolling nearby, the response was quick. Two of the suspected perpetrators, a 14-year-old Syrian and a 15-year-old German, were arrested at the scene. She is now being investigated for attempted extortion. This is reported by the Saxon.

The incident is part of a worrying development in the city. At the same time, traffic accidents involving buses and trams are reportedly increasing. A total of 394 tram accidents were recorded in 2024, an increase of almost 25 percent compared to the previous year. Accidents involving buses also rose by almost 30 percent from 240 to 311. This increase shows clear pressure on the transport system in Dresden, which is under additional strain due to overloading and the removal of car lanes.

Road safety and causes of accidents

According to parliamentary group leader Holger Zastrow from Team Zastrow, Dresden's transport routes are under massive pressure, especially after the bridge collapse in September 2024. The inadequate road conditions are not only leading to an increase in accidents, but also to an increase in the costs of repairs and insurance premiums. A spokesman for DVB, Falk Lösch, notes that construction sites and changes in traffic flows contribute to the general increase in accidents.

Particularly in bus accidents, it can be seen that in three out of four cases, lateral misjudgment, usually when turning or swerving, is the cause of the accident. Zastrow urgently calls for a rethinking of transport policy in order to create efficient roads and enable rail and car traffic to be separated.

Future challenges for Dresden

The city is faced with the challenge of achieving improvements in the transport system through current and planned major projects such as the Nossen Bridge, Königsbrücker Straße and the Blue Wonder. These necessary measures could help to improve the safety situation in road traffic and reduce the increasing number of accidents.

The incidents in Dresden not only highlight the urgency of measures to improve safety on the public transport network, but also the need for a holistic approach to reduce both crime and traffic accidents. The city administration is required to develop preventative strategies to ensure the quality of life in Dresden.
