Drivers beware: Massive construction sites are disrupting traffic in Saxony!
Drivers in Saxony have had to prepare for numerous restrictions on the motorways since Monday, July 7, 2025. These measures are part of extensive construction work that will be carried out in the coming days and in the longer term.
The A17 motorway is particularly affected, where the exit from the Dresden-Gorbitz junction in the direction of Prague will be closed until July 8th, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The reason for this is signage work. Road users at the Dresden-Südvorstadt junction will be redirected back to the Dresden-Gorbitz junction in order to avoid the closure. Information on current construction sites and traffic disruptions can also be found in the Construction Site Information System Saxony.
A4 and A72/A38 – Further restrictions
There are also notable changes on the A4. Here, between the Chemnitz-Mitte and Limbach-Oberfrohna junctions in the direction of Chemnitz, the lanes will be reduced at night from July 7th to 11th. This measure is intended to repair the roadway, with traffic being guided past the construction site in the remaining lane.
In addition, there is a lane narrowing on the A4 between the Bautzen-Ost junction and the Löbauer Wasser rest area in the direction of Görlitz, which will last until September 13th. Here too, traffic will continue to be routed past the measure in two lanes.
The closure of the crossing from the A72 to the A38 in the direction of Dresden at the Leipzig-Süd motorway junction is particularly noticeable. This closure applies from July 5th to August 23rd. Traffic on the A72 will be single-lane in this area as the roadway is being widened. Traffic will be rerouted within the Leipzig-Süd motorway junction.
Digital information now also available
With the number of construction sites growing everywhere in Saxony and to make route planning easier, road users can now view information about construction sites on federal highways via the Construction Site Information System of the Free State of Saxony. This system enables route planning that is almost independent of the street class and provides up-to-date information on construction work, including full closures and partial closures.
The traffic data required for the system comes from the responsible traffic authorities and is provided via the “Mobilithek”. This central platform of the Federal Ministry of Digital and Transport simplifies the exchange of mobility data between public and private service providers and is an important component for future-oriented transport planning.
Due to these extensive construction measures and the new digital information offerings, it is recommended to check the current traffic situation before setting off and, if necessary, choose alternative routes.
