From Monday, the speed limit of 30 km/h applies in a section of Kolmstraße in Leipzig-Stötteritz. This measure was implemented on behalf of the Southeast Council Advisory Board and concerns the area between the Commandant-Prendel-Allee and Holzhäuser Straße. According to TAG24 , the costs for setting up the speed limit amount to around 3000 Euro.

The background of this decision is the high noise values in this area. During the day, a noise pollution of 65 decibels and 55 decibels are measured at night, which exceeds the municipal limits. With the introduction of the 30s zone, traffic safety near the Franz Mehring School and the swimming pool is to be improved and the risk of accidents, especially for pupils, pedestrians and cyclists.

increase in traffic safety

Tempo 30 zones are a common practice in many residential areas in Germany and also in Leipzig. The aim of these zones is to calm traffic and increase safety for pedestrians and cyclists. The legal basis for this regulation can be found in Section 45 (1) of the Road Traffic Regulations (StVO) and includes a label that is visible when entering the zone. This is displayed by traffic signs 274.1, while the end of the zone is signaled by a gray, crossed-out variant (274.2), as the ADAC explains.

As a rule, the same traffic and parking regulations apply to Tempo 30 zones as on other streets. There are usually no traffic lights in these zones and the center lines are often omitted, which contributes to safety. In order to promote compliance with the speed limit, structural measures to reduce speeds are possible, and it is possible to punish speeding with fines.

fines for speed violations

The fines for speed violations in speed 30 zones are staggered as follows:

violation fines
to 10 km/h 30 €
11 - 15 km/h 50 €
16 - 20 km/h 70 €
21 - 25 km/h 115 €
26 - 30 km/h 180 €
31 - 40 km/h 260 €
41 - 50 km/h 400 €
51 - 60 km/h 560 €

The introduction of such zones not only contributes to traffic safety, but also improves the quality of living and living in the affected areas. Similar to many other countries, such as in Paris and Spain, speed reductions in residential areas are increasingly being used in Germany. With this measure, the city of Leipzig takes another step towards a safer and more livable urban environment.
