Future of amateur football: DFB President Neuendorf in conversation

In today's panel discussion in SG Bornheim, Frankfurt, important topics about the future of club football have been put on the agenda. DFB President Bernd Neuendorf, together with prominent guests such as Mayor Mike Josef and Silke Sinning, President of the Hessian Football Association, discussed the challenges that amateur football is facing. In addition to promoting children in sports, the strengthening of the volunteer and improving the financial resources of the clubs was also addressed. The event was organized by Harald Seehausen, the 79-year-old board member of SG Bornheim, and aims to take more attention to the integration of refugees and people with disabilities.

The discussion announced itself as a platform at which members of the sporting community can go into dialogue in order to actively shape the future of football. Basti Red, a former SG Bornheim player, emphasized the positive role of the association in the integration and support of young people. Neuendorf also called for a legal anchoring of sports funding in the planned 100 billion special assets for infrastructure to support the DFB clubs sustainably. "The term 'sport' is often not mentioned in political debates too little," criticized Neuendorf.

DFB under Neuendorf

Bernd Neuendorf is about to re-election as President of the German Football Association (DFB) at the upcoming Bundestag on November 7th in Frankfurt. After taking office in March 2022, the mood at the base of the DFB looks much more positive than before. Neuendorf has focused on putting football back on football and improving cooperation between the DFB and German Football League (DFL). Ronny Zimmermann, DFB Vice President, praised him for the consolidation of the organization and the connection of the base and lace.

Under his direction, the DFB has made progress in terms of personnel and structural. The initiative for promoting children in sports and strengthening the volunteer were also in the foreground of the discussion. The DFB association structure has achieved a new record with almost 24,000 clubs and over 8 million members. Neuendorf and Sinning encouraged the clubs to develop a clear philosophy that is not only focused on performance, but also put social aspects in the foreground.

In addition, Mike Josef illustrated the importance of investments in sports facilities to support the more than 416 sports clubs in Frankfurt, many of which are due to a lack of capacities. These challenges can be felt particularly in rural areas, where the liveliness of the clubs is more than ever at stake. Neuendorf warns that all children have to be included in sport to ensure the future of football sustainably.

With the proposal for the re -election of Stephan Grunwald as treasurer and the more positive perception of the DFB, Neuendorf could strive for an extended term of four years. The developments at this event show that things can move and the DFB is ready to break new ground. These discussions will be decisive for the future of amateur football.
