Record city cycling: 4,700 participants on the road for climate protection!
This year's took place in the Weilheim-Schongau district “City cycling” campaign a successful climax announced on June 20, 2025. Over 4,700 people took part in the initiative, which aimed to make everyday journeys climate-friendly by bicycle. With around 700,000 kilometers covered, a new record was set and the previous year's result was significantly exceeded. The campaign, which is part of a broader climate protection program, motivated citizens to take action for a better environment.
This year's campaign started on May 15, 2025 and lasted until June 6, 2025. In the first few days, the participants covered 260,000 kilometers, which led to savings of around 27 tons of CO₂. Participation and savings
The campaign was accompanied by school and kindergarten cycling competitions, which underlines the high importance of the issue of climate protection for young and old. In the first week of the campaign alone, over 166,000 kilometers were collected. Citizens, clubs, schools, kindergartens, companies and administrations contributed to the entire route with 260 teams. These impressive figures show how important climate protection is to the people in the region.
In the neighboring district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, participants cycled around 300,000 kilometers. This illustrates the positive effect of such community actions and their impact beyond one's own borders.
