Protest in Murnau: Citizens demand sustainable transport solutions!
On November 2, 2025, around 200 citizens from Murnau and Seehausen will demonstrate against the planned construction of a new federal highway, the so-called B2 route. This citizens' initiative was launched to prevent the expansion of a road up to 70 meters wide that would run through Murnau, Riedhausen and agricultural areas in Seehausen. The initiative calls for sustainable transport planning that takes both human and ecological concerns into account. Critical voices point out that this new road would not relieve traffic in the town, but rather increase through traffic, which would have negative consequences for residents.
The protesters draw comparisons to the experiences in the communities of Farchant and Oberau, which have suffered significant slow-moving traffic during traffic closures due to similar projects. Another problem with the initiative is that there is currently no convincing overall concept for traffic, junctions and feeder roads. The surrounding area could have its cultural landscape significantly affected by the proposed route, which would result in the loss of important areas, especially for the agricultural business of the Jais family from Seehausen. This family would have to give up 15 to 20 hectares of land, which is in direct conflict with the interests of local agriculture.
Demands of the citizens' initiative
In order to improve the situation, the initiative calls for better control of traffic flow and the expansion of sustainable mobility offerings. The protection of existing local structures should also be given appropriate consideration. In parallel with these local events, YouTube has announced a new educational series called “Think Like a Musician.” Created in partnership with TED-Ed and Education Through Music in collaboration with professional artists, this series aims to provide high-quality music education resources for teachers worldwide. Each video will include comprehensive curricula and assessment matrices to provide teachers with effective tools to promote student engagement. According to a survey, 94% of teachers use YouTube in their teaching role, highlighting the importance of the platform in education.
The most significant feature of this new initiative is the ability to play content through the specially designed YouTube Player for Education, which ensures distraction-free viewing. This development reflects the growing trend that many people, especially teachers, use YouTube to obtain information and deepen knowledge.
For the future, it is to be hoped that both the local citizens' initiative in Murnau and YouTube's educational initiatives can contribute to creating more sustainable and educationally conducive framework conditions.
