New network for stroke patients launched in Saxony-Anhalt!
On June 11, 2025, the Neurovascular Network Saxony-Anhalt North, better known as “NeuvaNet SAN”, was launched to improve emergency care and treatment of stroke patients in the region. The official signing of the framework agreement took place between the University Medical Center Magdeburg and several partner clinics, as med.ovgu.de reports. The main goal of the network is to ensure seamless care with faster intervention times, which is crucial for the treatment of patients with complex neurovascular diseases.
The partner clinics include various facilities, including the Median Klinik NRZ Magdeburg, the Seehausen gGmbH Hospital, AMEOS Ost in Haldensleben and the Harzklinikum Dorothea Christiane Erxleben. Other partners are the HELIOS St. Marienberg Clinic Helmstedt, the Johanniter Hospital Stendal, the Klinikum Magdeburg gGmbH, the Salus gGmbH in Uchtspringe and the Altmark-Klinikum gGmbH in Gardelegen and Salzwedel. The network also receives support from institutions such as the AOK Sachsen-Anhalt and the association of municipal and state-owned hospitals.
Goals and tasks of the network
NeuvaNet SAN focuses on optimizing acute care through close interdisciplinary collaboration between emergency medicine, neurology, neuroradiology, neurosurgery and vascular surgery. The network has set itself the goal of improving the quality of treatment through standardized, evidence-based therapy concepts and applying modern diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, as described in detail on neuvanetsan.med.ovgu.de.
The network's key tasks include weekly interdisciplinary case conferences, rapid diagnosis and treatment of strokes, and telemedical advice. In addition, the aim is to develop uniform care standards and promote quality assurance and further training for all network partners. An important innovation is the introduction of a mobile neuroradiological intervention team that travels directly to partner locations in order to be able to implement interventional procedures more effectively.
24/7 availability and interdisciplinary collaboration
The Neurovascular Network ensures 24/7 availability for acute cases, second opinions and complex interventions. The Magdeburg University Medical Center plays a central control and coordination role. This coordinated collaboration is intended not only to improve emergency care, but also to guarantee the best possible treatment for patients with ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes.
The background for the founding of the network is alarming: Strokes are one of the most common causes of death in Germany and are the most common cause of disability in adults. The need for structured and efficient care could no longer be ignored by those responsible.
