Mühlentag in Wanzer: Visitors flock to the historic Bockwindmühle!

On Whit Monday, June 11, 2025, the German mill day took place on the impressive Bockwindmühle in Wanzer. The event attracts numerous visitors every year and is actively organized by the members of the Windmühlen and Heimatverein Garbe. Between 2001 and 2007, the mill was rebuilt under the leadership of Jonny Buck, the former mayor and chairman of the association, and has since served as a cultural and identity -creating building for the community. The roots of the mill go back to 1611 when the Marten mill was in operation at the same location until 1946. Parts of today's Bockwindmühle come from a second mill that was used until the 1950s.

The Bockwindmühle, which is located in Dorfstraße 24 in 39615 Wanzer, is fully functional and regularly offers guided tours that enable a fascinating insight into the interior and the technical processes of the mill. Visitors can admire the large machines and mechanisms and learn a lot about the history of the mill and its surroundings. In front of the building, a playground provides entertainment among the children; The entire outdoor area is freely accessible at all times. The baking days, which take place on two Sundays a month and where traditional bread and cake are freshly prepared, are also particularly popular.

diverse offers and entertainment program

Whit Monday was a complete success this year. On the outdoor area, the Löcknitztal musicians entertained the visitors and contributed to the festive atmosphere. A special highlight was a 50 kilogram pig on the spit, which was quickly sold. Jonny Buck said that the preparation for the festival was a challenge due to the high organizational effort and the weather conditions, but in the end it stayed dry and the number of visitors was pleasantly high. Even if the Mitmachtheater for children only had a low participation, Buck was overall satisfied with the course of the day.

Dieter Spillner, who was also actively involved in the event, explained several interested parties behind the farm of the mill. These demonstrations not only offer a nostalgic return to the world of old craftsmanship, but also a deep connection to the history of the village.
