Attention, Saxony-Anhalt! Future of the A14 and A143 threatened due to lack of money!
Transport Minister Hüskens warns against construction stops on the A14 and A143 in Saxony-Anhalt due to financing problems.

Attention, Saxony-Anhalt! Future of the A14 and A143 threatened due to lack of money!
In Saxony-Anhalt, the future of important highway projects is at acute risk. Transport Minister Lydia Hüskens (FDP) has urgently called for the construction projects on the A14 and A143 to be implemented quickly, as impending funding gaps could result in a halt to construction of individual measures. This reports MDR.
A possible construction halt would not only endanger mobility in the region, but would also result in a backlog of investments. Cuts in transport infrastructure and uncertainty surrounding the 2025 federal budget, which is due to be passed in September, are increasing pressure on projects that have already been promised. Autobahn GmbH is currently in provisional financial management, which complicates the implementation of new projects. Halle's mayor Alexander Vogt describes the further construction of the A143 as "no alternative" and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) sees the possible halt to construction on the A14 as a "more than a small catastrophe".
Financing gaps and their consequences
The general works council of Autobahn GmbH has also warned of the serious consequences associated with the current financial situation. Urgent bridge modernization and route maintenance could be at great risk. A letter from Autobahn GmbH to the chairman of the supervisory board, Stefan Schnorr, points out this problem. Loud star The danger of an immediate construction stop for the A14 expansion in the Altmark and the Saale crossing on the A143 is becoming more and more concrete.
Autobahn GmbH has already imposed a ban on tenders for 2025, which affects both new construction projects and the renovation of dilapidated bridges. Some of the funds will only be available once the budget law is passed in September. This endangers the planning and implementation of many urgently needed infrastructure projects.
Urgency of the measures
The federal government is already working on short-term solutions to enable early allocation of funds. In the meantime, however, ongoing traffic safety measures and existing tenders, especially for bridge renovations, should be continued. There is therefore no general construction freeze, but the uncertainty about financing is becoming increasingly noticeable.
Companies in the region are counting on the projects to be completed by 2030, but are faced with the challenge that without clear commitments and a long-term financing commitment, the planned construction projects are at risk. The pressure on political decision-makers is growing to ensure mobility and economic stability in Saxony-Anhalt.
