Arsonist in Leipzig: 33-year-old is said to have set a caravan on fire!
A series of arson attacks in Leipzig are causing great concern among residents. A 33-year-old man is suspected of setting fires in several parts of the city. In particular, he is accused of setting fire to a caravan in which a 36-year-old was staying, who was injured in the incident. The police assume arson in nine cases and are also investigating attempted murder in conjunction with dangerous bodily harm. The investigation into the incidents is ongoing and several crime scenes have already been viewed without the exact circumstances of the crime being fully clarified. The MDR reports that the suspect was taken into custody.
On Saturday night, the violent situation in Leipzig continued to detonate when several vehicles burst into flames. These arsons took place in the Schleußig district, within a radius of around a hundred meters, and the vehicles affected included not only cars, but also caravans and campers. The public prosecutor's office already has several clues that are being incorporated into the investigation, and a possible attempted murder is being openly considered because a man in the caravan was injured. The n-tv reports that the arrest of the suspect is directly related to these fires.
Investigations are ongoing
The investigation is not yet complete. The police are keeping a low profile on the current status of clues and other relevant information in order not to jeopardize the success of the investigation. A police spokesman emphasized that each individual arson would be investigated to find out possible connections between the crimes. In addition, extensive research is being carried out in the affected districts in order to record other affected residents and to interview possible witnesses.
The situation remains tense and the affected districts are alarmed. Experiencing multiple fires in the immediate area in such a short period of time is a worrying experience for residents. Authorities have issued a public appeal for people to report suspicious activity as investigators continue to examine all possible leads to catch the perpetrator.
