Snake wraps itself around vet: Drama on the set of the ARD series!
The popular ARD series “Veterinarian Dr. Mertens” is currently in Leipzig for its ninth season. Elisabeth Lanz, who has been playing the lead role for 20 years, not only creates excitement in front of the screen, but also on set. While filming at Leipzig Zoo, she found herself in a tricky situation when, during a scene, a real snake wrapped itself around her body and began to squeeze. Despite the adrenaline and danger, Lanz remained calm and finished recording so as not to interrupt the day of filming, as thueringen24.de reports.
The crew has been working at the zoo since the end of May, filming with real animals under realistic conditions. As she emphasizes, Lanz has complete trust in the animal trainers, which helps her overcome the challenges during filming. Her daughter, who has already gained acting experience, is also following in her mother's footsteps and is taking part in the current season.
Filming in Leipzig
As filming progresses in Leipzig, there is important information for local residents. The film teams are active on several days in the South Center, specifically on Härtelstrasse. For the dates on Friday, July 19th, as well as Tuesday and Wednesday, July 22nd and 23rd, parking bans will be set up on Härtelstrasse and Ernst-Schneller-Strasse. Night filming is also planned, with work continuing until 2 a.m. on one of the days, as lvz.de reports.
In order to minimize the burden on residents, diesel generators are not used. Executive producer Kai Meyer-Ricks explains that for practical reasons, night scenes can only be filmed in the dark. A total of 13 new episodes are being planned, which will be filmed by November, with the new episodes broadcast on ARD from spring 2025.
The path of Elisabeth Lanz
Elisabeth Lanz is not only talented, but also disciplined. Her youth in the Austrian junior track and field squad gave her stamina. These qualities also draw her into caring for her daughter, who is getting into acting. Lanz also emphasizes that her life shouldn't just be about acting. She warns against viewing the profession only as a way to become famous and actively supports her daughter's social education.
This exciting combination of filming, personal challenges and commitment to the family makes the current season of “Veterinarian Dr. Mertens” a special experience for both the actors and the viewers.
