Drama in Leipzig: tram accident and rescuer for kite surfer!
On June 6, 2025, there were several incidents in Leipzig that significantly affected the city and traffic situation. The events include a traffic accident with a tram, a dramatic rescue operation for a kite surfer and the theft of a high-value car.
A traffic accident occurred around 8:05 a.m. on Prager Straße in Reudnitz-Thonberg. A 33-year-old Skoda driver wanted to turn around at the intersection towards the court route and overlooked an approaching tram. The driver sustained minor injuries in the incident, but did not require medical treatment. The property damage amounts to around 12,000 euros, and there were traffic restrictions while the traffic accident service started the investigation on site L-IZ reported.
Further traffic accidents and their consequences
Another tram accident occurred on the same day at around 4:40 p.m. on the corner of Waldstrasse and Möckernsche Allee. A 58-year-old driver was slightly injured when she overlooked a tram on line 4 while turning onto Waldstrasse. This accident also led to significant delays and cancellations in tram service on line 4 while the police investigated the circumstances of the accident. The material damage caused by this incident is estimated at around 55,000 euros, according to the LVZ reports.
Aside from the traffic accidents, the water police were not idle. At Lake Zwenkauer, a kite surfer had to be rescued around 12:05 p.m. after she got into an emergency due to strong winds and currents. A passerby alerted the police, who acted quickly. The woman was brought ashore unharmed at 12:20 p.m. Her surfing equipment floating in the water could also be recovered and handed over to the surfer, as in the L-IZ reported.
Theft of a jeep
The incidents also include the theft of a black Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT in Leipzig-Leutzsch. The car was stolen between 7pm on June 5th and 8:15am on June 6th. The vehicle has an estimated current value of around 50,000 euros. The police are already investigating and are looking for the particularly serious case of theft, so the affected vehicle owner can expect further investigations in the next few days.
