RB Leipzig signs Romulo: The new star for the Bundesliga!
RB Leipzig have signed a promising new signing in Brazilian striker Romulo to fill the offensive gap following the departure of Benjamin Sesko. The 23-year-old moves from Turkish side Göztepe and costs up to 25 million euros. The contract has a term of five years and runs until June 30, 2030. Of this, around 20 million euros are intended as a base transfer, while bonuses can increase the payment by up to five million euros. The contract also provides for a resale share of ten percent. Romulo will wear number 40 in Leipzig.
The sporting leadership of RB Leipzig had already had its eye on Romulo for two months. The player is described as being able to be used flexibly – both as a classic nine and in more variable roles in the attack. In the last SüperLig season, Romulo scored 13 goals and provided nine assists in 29 appearances. Göztepe initially loaned him out in February 2024 before the club signed him for around 2.5 million euros.
The step into the Bundesliga
Romulo himself sees the move to RB Leipzig as a “big step” in his career. He expressed his desire to prove himself in the Bundesliga and is planned as an alternative to the new star striker Lois Openda. With an impressive height of 1.93 meters and strong pressing skills that give him a certain resemblance to his predecessor Benjamin Sesko, Romulo promises to be a valuable addition to the team.
Looking at last season, Romulo scored a total of 17 goals and provided 10 assists in 33 competitive games for Göztepe. The club finished eighth in the league. While the details of the partnership with Xavi Simons are still unclear, Romulo is still expected to play an important role in RB Leipzig's attack, especially after the lucrative sale of Benjamin Sesko to Manchester United for €85 million.
